85 years ago, thousands of airmen and millions of men and women across the home front came together to defend our way of life. To protect our freedom during what has come to be known as our country’s darkest hour.
Of the 2,945 aircrew who took part, many of them would never return. It is impossible to imagine what that must have been like, what they endured and how those experiences continued to impact them long after the battle was won. But it is thanks to their bravery, to the grit, resolve and sacrifice of all those who served and fought, that we are able to enjoy the freedoms we do today.
It is with the greatest appreciation, humility and the deepest respect that I say thank you to them all.
