The Battle of Britain, occurring when the Royal Air Force was just 22 years old, was a defining moment in our history. Churchill was right to say that never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few. As a serving member of the Royal Air Force today I feel a deep sense of gratitude and pride when I reflect on the events of 85 years ago. Those who served with such courage, determination and skill still inspire those of us who serve today. We will never forget the heroism, sacrifice, professionalism and courage of ‘The Few’ and ‘The Many’ who served and died so that victory could be possible. For your service and bravery, we are eternally grateful.
